Bring a clear overview

Gather current policies, renewal notices and your main questions. Note the household members or business activities concerned and any upcoming change such as a move, new job or planned purchase. You do not need to decide on a replacement contract before the discussion begins.

Set two or three priorities

Explain what you want to improve: cost, understanding your benefits, filling a gap or preparing for retirement. Ask the adviser to separate essential issues from optional additions. Compare existing protection with any proposal and ask for examples of situations in which the cover would or would not respond.

Leave with a documented next step

Ask for a short list of missing information, quotations to review and deadlines that genuinely apply. Keep written proposals and the reasons behind them. A good first review can simply identify what needs checking; it does not require signing immediately or changing every policy.
